    Peace Quotes

    Jimmy Carter said:
We have witnessed the most abject poverty, ethnic and religious differences, and human rights abuses, which have brought about the largest number of military conflicts in history. These experiences have convinced me that the greatest challenge we face is how to reduce the growing disparity between the rich and poor people on earth.

    Lizbeth said:
PeaceBike: Lizbeth, how are you a peacemaker? Lizbeth: I have a number of friends who do not have very good relationships with their parents and I help them with these situations. I support them, listen to them, and encourage them when they are not getting very much encouragment from their family.

It has been my experience here in ecuador that the topics the children seem most interested in are the basic differences in cultures they are not familiar with. for example...a typical meal, a special meal, what are the customs for celebrating certain holidays, what do we study at school, what are our parents occupation, what sports do we play, how do we spend our free time? while there are similarities, there are subtle differences which seem to fascinate them (you mean you dont eat guinea pigs, you keep them as pets??? thats weird!). from my perspective the greatest challenge facing peacewriters is the language barrier, as any students i get involved would use spanish. good luck and peace on....tom
